Algemeen
De Kurzweil Artis 7 stagepiano is een ideale partner voor de toetsenist die regelmatig het podium beklimt. Met een stevige behuizing van nog geen 13 kilo, is dit een lichtgewicht product voor wat er allemaal in zit - erg praktisch voor uw rug. De klankkwaliteit is hoog; Kurzwel selecteerde de beste klanken uit de PC3- en KORE-expansies. Het klankpalet is ook divers, het is (anders dan de naam doet suggereren) meer dan alleen maar een verzameling pianoklanken. Ook een Hammond B3-simulatie is present, te bedienen met sliders die hiervoor dienst doen als drawbars.
Eigenschappen van de Kurzweil Artis 7 stagepiano
Die sliders zijn slechts één aspect aan het grote live-gehalte. De equalizer, links in het bedieningspaneel, is zeer makkelijk live aan te passen. Voor het spelen in ruimtes die te hol te klinken is het ideaal dat u zo wat bassen kunt wegdraaien. Het semi-gewogen klavier (Fatar TP8) kunt u opsplitsen in zones of layeren - ideaal voor een complexe performance. Ook stelt u met sliders de hoeveelheid effecten in, ook dit is typisch iets dat u live snel wilt doen zonder in menu's te moeten duiken.
De klank
Zoals gezegd is het meer dan alleen maar een digitale piano. EPiano's, orgels, blaasinstrumenten, strijkers, vocalen, pads, gitaren, het zit er allemaal in. En dat is erg handig op het podium; niet ieder nummer verlangt immers een pianoklank. Met speciale software kunt u de diepste syntheseparameters in de Artis 7 aanpassen, mocht u er behoefte aan hebben. Zo niet, dan staan er sowieso 256 klanken tot uw beschikking. De klanken voldoen ruim aan de professionele reputatie die Kurzweil heeft, een beginnersmerk is het nooit geweest.

Pros: The Artis ticked all the boxes at a lower price point than its competitors (like the red one from sweden) while providing most of the same functionality. The build quality is very nice with a metal feel and rubbery knobs/pots , it provides a bit less controls than a Nord but has the essentials (pitch bend and wheel, drawbars, key clicks on/off, rotary on/off etc.) with a very decent collection of sounds. I had read comments about the keyed being too springy but i like it, heavy enough for piano but no so much that you can play organ or synth leads on it. Black keys are also very slightly matte (very subtle) which i personally like. The favorite sounds shortcuts are very handy and all the controls well thought out.
It is also provided with a solid sustain pedal and a pair of audio cables which is a nice touch.
Cons: The only issue I have is that the iPad app mentioned on the Kurzweil website doesn't work! It is simply not supported on latest IOS. I have reached out to both Kurzweil and Soundtower, who promised an imminent upgrade but alas according to forums they have been saying this for years.. :-( Not the end of the world as the Mac app works but still, misleading advertising on Kurzweil's part.
The distinctive side panels do not entirely cover the keys which sticks out a little bit (see pictures). Might consider having some custom wooden side panels done.
All in all, a very well build and nice sounding instrument. I am surprised that it is not mentioned more often as a competitors to the Nords. Yes it doesn't have all the controls and sample import from the Nord but you get access to the Kurzweil's well respected PC3 library of sounds and a very useful set of controls (including pitch bend and wheel for the synth solos) in a compact and reasonably light package. Shame about the lack of iPad app though.

woensdag 5 november 2014 Door Maarten | Bax MusicEen nieuwe stagepiano van Kurzweil, dat is wel een nieuwsbericht waardig! De Artis 7 heeft 76 toetsen in een lichtgewicht behuizing en een topklank. Goed nieuws voor de podiumbeesten onder u, met name als u ook de Hammond B3-sound in uw performance wilt.
